CONTINUOUS
Improvement
.
The Civil Engineering program has implemented a process of continuous improvement that will allow future professionals to have a solid educational foundation with the capacity to manage innovative processes, emerging technologies, and anticipate the welfare and safety needs of the community. With this, students, employers, and society in general will be confident that the program meets quality standards and prepares graduates to enter a global workforce.
Program Educational Objectives
The Civil Engineering Program at UIS expects its graduates to attain the following, after 3-5 years of professional practice:
Analyze, design, develop, and manage civil infrastructure projects, according to both the standards of the discipline and the sustainability requirements, and to perform under criteria of ethical and social responsibility.
Communicate effectively within work teams and interact with professionals of other disciplines in order to solve problems and add value to projects.
Self-improve their knowledge and skills in order to adapt to the technological, organizational and social changes demanded by the profession and society.
Student Outcomes
The program of Civil Engineering aims to develop the following student outcomes:
An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
