The School of Petroleum Engineering – EIP, founded in 1.954 is an administrative academic unit attached to the Faculty of Physicochemical Engineering, whose mission is to contribute to the transformation of the hydrocarbon sector through the training of professionals with human, ethical, technical, scientific and leadership capabilities that promote the creation and transfer of knowledge and the generation of innovative and sustainable solutions, based on continuous improvement of your processes.

In 2030 the School of Petroleum Engineering will be recognized for being a leader in scientific research, for being innovative in the teaching-learning process and for promoting collaborative work between academia-industry-state in the value chain of hydrocarbons and complementary energies, positively impacting sustainable development.

The Applicant to the Petroleum Engineering program of the Universidad Industrial de Santander must be recognized as a person with aptitudes and skills for the understanding and reasoning of mathematics, physics, chemistry as basic sciences. In addition, they must have a high degree of motivation, responsibility and leadership in the development of their academic activities, willingness to develop teamwork processes, oral and written communication skills, ability to adapt to change, critical reading and an ethical and moral sense for the responsible development of their learning processes.

The Petroleum Engineer of Universidad Industrial  Santander will be an ethical, creative and competent professional, who contributes to sustainable development by understanding the theoretical foundations and applying them in the design, execution and evaluation of projects in the hydrocarbon industry; with international projection, leadership and investigative and innovative attitude to the challenges of the sector.

The Petroleum Engineer may perform in the following organizations at national or international public or private levels:

  • Entities operating partnership contracts for the search and exploitation of oil and gas fields.
  • Contracting firms in the hydrocarbons industrial sector. Service companies and consultancies in the oil and gas industry.
  • Designer companies, construction companies and managers of natural gas home networks.
  • Entities that formulate and manage control policies in the management of the hydrocarbons' industry.
  • Research centres and internal and external bodies that promote scientific knowledge of the hydrocarbons sector.

The Petroleum Engineering program has implemented a process of continuous improvement that will allow future professionals to have a solid educational base with the ability to lead innovation processes, emerging technologies and anticipate the well-being and safety needs of the community. This is intended that: students, employers and society in general, have the confidence that the program meets quality standards and offers graduates prepared to enter a global workforce.

Educational Objectives of the Program

The Educational Objectives of the Petroleum Engineering Program are:

  • Our graduates will have a broad and deep technical knowledge and competitive skills necessary to be successful professionals and leaders in decision making.
  • Our graduates will work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams that integrate people from different cultures and points of view, to obtain effective and efficient results, while providing leadership to achieve the objectives set.
  • Our graduates will practice their professions in a responsible and ethical manner, aware of the impact of engineering solutions on the global, economic, environmental and social context.

Learning Outcomes

The Metallurgical Engineering program aims to develop the following learning outcomes in your students:

  • The ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  • The ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specific needs considering public health, safety and well-being, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental and economic factors.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • The ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental and social contexts.
  • The ability to function effectively in a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, set goals, plan tasks, and meet goals.
  • The ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
  • The ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
