ABOUT THE
Program
The Veterinary Medicine program aims to train comprehensive, ethical, and innovative professionals with a political and regional development focus. Graduates will promote public health, animal welfare, food safety, and the protection of wildlife.
Through this program, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking and analytical skills that enable them to conduct diagnosis, control, and epidemiological and epizootiological surveillance. They will also be prepared to plan, design, evaluate, and manage programs focused on animal health and regional development.

The Veterinary Medicine program is open to all high school graduates in Colombia or their equivalent abroad. The program is designed for individuals with creative sensitivity and social commitment, who demonstrate interest and motivation toward the livestock vocation, rural development, environmental protection and sustainability, and the promotion of safe food production based on respect for the environment and the advancement of society.

The Veterinarian from the Universidad Industrial de Santander is an ethical and well-rounded professional with a holistic vision of animal health sciences, strongly oriented toward sustainability and public health. This professional stands out for a bioethical education that prioritizes animal health and is grounded in animal welfare, preventive medicine, biosecurity, public health, food safety, and the quality and safety of animal-origin products. Graduates also excel in the diagnosis, control, and epidemiological and epizootiological surveillance of diseases.
Graduates of this program are trained to plan, design, evaluate, and manage programs focused on animal health and regional development. They possess the skills to perform clinical examinations on animals, diagnose diseases, prescribe, formulate, and apply treatments, thereby ensuring sustainable production as well as the quality and safety of animal-origin foods.
The graduate’s education includes competencies to design and implement sanitary and biosecurity programs essential for the prevention of diseases in livestock operations. They are also capable of promoting veterinary public health by implementing protocols for the prevention of zoonotic diseases and issuing appropriate guidelines for animal care in the livestock sector, helping reduce the likelihood of zoonotic outbreaks.
Furthermore, graduates will have the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, developing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that strengthen the livestock sector. They will also be leaders prepared to face challenges arising from demographic, environmental, social, epidemiological, and political changes, staying at the forefront of these transformations and contributing to the development of policies that foster effective solutions at both regional and national levels.
