The Forestry Engineering program is open to all high school graduates in Colombia or their international equivalents, without requiring additional skills, abilities, or aptitudes. The program is aimed at individuals with creative sensitivity and social commitment, who are interested and motivated by a vocation in forestry—particularly in the conservation and management of natural forests, rural development, and the application of technology, engineering, and economics in their role as forest engineers contributing to the transformation of the sector.
The selection process for the Forestry Engineering program is essential to ensure that incoming students possess the skills and competencies necessary for academic success and a future career in the forestry field. In this regard, key considerations are presented for the applicant profile based on the competencies evaluated in the national high school graduation exam:
- Reading Comprehension and Critical Thinking: Students interested in Forestry Engineering should demonstrate strong skills in understanding texts and extracting explicit information. This ability is essential for absorbing technical and scientific knowledge, as much of the information is found in documents, research, and specialized literature. Additionally, critical thinking is crucial for analyzing and solving complex problems that may arise in their future professional practice.
- Civic Awareness and Ethics: Applicants should have a strong understanding of civic rights and ethical responsibility in various situations. This is especially important, as Forestry Engineering has a direct impact on ecosystems, communities, and society at large. Students must be aware of their role in sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources, as well as the importance of complying with current regulations and standards within the sector.
- Ability to Interpret Scientific Information: The program requires students to be capable of interpreting data presented in tables, graphs, and diagrams, and relating it to basic concepts in forest sciences. This skill is essential for understanding the scientific foundations behind forestry practices and for applying knowledge to practical situations and everyday problems.
.
The entrance profile for the Forestry Engineering program is geared toward developing students with key skills that enable them to meet the academic and professional challenges of the forestry field. The competencies assessed in the national high school graduation exam—focused on comprehension, analysis, and communication skills—ensure that future students are prepared to tackle both the theoretical and practical demands of the discipline, contributing to sustainable development and innovation in the sector.
