ABOUT THE

Program

The undergraduate degree in Economics at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) aims to train economists who can assume, from a universal vision of social sciences, the analysis and criticism of the principles that interpret the development of society and its future prospects.

Likewise, the program seeks to orient its students towards an understanding of the universal character of economic theories and the particularities of their application. In this sense, during the training process, they acquire the necessary skills to optimally diagnose and design public policies related to the Colombian economy in its national, regional and sectoral dimensions.

The candidates for the undergraduate degree in Economics from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) is characterized by their commitment and interest in successfully carrying out the academic activities that will be entrusted to them Likewise, the applicants are individuals who tolerate and value the diversity of ideas as an important element for the enrichment of their learning process.

Reading comprehension and mathematics are fundamental aspects for the good development of the curriculum; thus, it is necessary for the applicant to feel comfortable in these two fields.

The program's graduates stand out for their free and responsible criteria in the study, analysis, interpretation and development of acceptable solutions to the economic problems of the country and the region. Particularly, they are highly qualified to:

  • Formulate sets of hypotheses that explain economic phenomena of the internal or external context.

  • Formulate alternative solutions to the economic problems and define selection criteria among the proposed alternatives, according to the objectives pursued and their social and environmental impact.

The economist who graduated from UIS stands out in the labor field, both in the private and public sector, for:

  • Carrying out theoretical or applied research.

  • Performing economic and financial analysis.

  • Managing finances in national and international trade operations.

  • Advising, assisting, and coordinating global or sectorial planning processes at a national, regional, or local level.

  • Formulate and evaluate public policy projects and development plans.

  • Implement economic policies in all areas of training.

  • To teach in Higher Education Institutions.
