about the
Program
The physiotherapy program belongs to the field of health, whose knowledge has evolved through deepening and validation, to respond to the challenges posed by different population groups at different stages of human development, to contribute to improving the quality of life of people and communities, by promoting and preventing movement disturbances.
For the School of Physiotherapy of the UIS the concept of quality is expressed through the mission, purposes, and objectives according to the characteristics and properties relevant to the formation of the physical therapist, related to the context, and the need for change required by society. The program’s quality paradigm is based on the strengths and opportunities of the Institution, Faculty, School, and Context; which is evident in the training processes and the quality of the graduate professional.

The Physiotherapist of the UIS is a professional with a great humanistic, ethical and critical sense, open to the change and progress of science, committed to the political, social, cultural and economic development of the country, who bases his actions on integral training, which allows him to develop competences in the cognitive, subjective and social dimensions.
It exercises its specific field of professional action, autonomously, through the multidimensional theoretical foundation around its object of study, human movement, as well as the definition of its models of evaluation, diagnosis and physical intervention. It maintains an open attitude towards research and interdisciplinary work that allows it to validate and generate the knowledge and development of socially significant alternatives of action.
His professional practice is oriented to the design, execution, direction, and control of programs or projects of Physiotherapeutic intervention for the promotion of health, kinetic well-being, the prevention of deficiencies, disabilities, and changes in physical condition in individuals and communities at risk, the recovery of systems essential for their maintenance and participation in interdisciplinary processes of enablement and integral rehabilitation.
LABOR
fiel
.
Physiotherapy is a multidisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary field of professional action, focused on the relationship between body movement and its implications in human function.
Performance Areas
According to Law 528 of 1999, regulating the professional exercise of the physical therapist, actions are defined for the design, implementation, direction, and control of programs or projects for the promotion of health and kinetic well-being, the prevention of deficiencies, functional limitations, disabilities and changes in physical condition, in individuals and communities at risk, the recovery of systems essential for human movement and participation in interdisciplinary processes of enablement and integral rehabilitation.
Promotion of Health, Well-Being and Physical Condition and Primary Prevention: The physical therapist at this level develops primary prevention and promotion activities, aimed at the various general population ethereal groups, as well as specific groups, to evaluate and educate the community about the protective factors of health and the various risk factors that predispose to alterations in human physics kinetics. These programs included community projection, occupational health, and programs aimed at high-performance populations.
Secondary prevention: The Physiotherapist performs the diagnostic and prognostic evaluation of movement disturbances, which guide decision-making for therapeutic intervention. It uses procedures aimed at enabling and retrieving functionality in the individual, based on internationally validated methods in the field of human physics kinetics.
Tertiary prevention: In this case, the physiotherapist is part of the interdisciplinary team involved in the rehabilitation of disabled people, through a continuous and coordinated process that proposes for their integration or reintegration into the family, social, and/or work environment.
Other areas of professional intervention
Administration: The Physiotherapist is in the capacity to manage physiotherapeutic services in the Social Security, Health, Labor, and Education sectors, among others. They can also direct and manage academic programs for the training of physiotherapists and other related professionals. They are also able to advise and participate in the design and formulation of policies in Health and Physiotherapy and in the projection of professional practice.
Teaching: The Physical Therapist educates intervention subjects for the adoption of healthy lifestyles and to teach movement. They can also develop in teaching in Physiotherapy Faculties and Programs and related programs.
Research: In this area, the physical therapist can design, execute and direct scientific research, discipline or interdisciplinary, aimed at the renewal or construction of knowledge that contributes to the understanding of its object of study and the development of its professional work, from the perspective of the natural and social sciences.
